SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Adham Barzani, a former senior official of the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), announced that the head of his guards was set free on Tuesday after more than five months of imprisonment.
Veteran Kurdish politician Sheikh Adham Barzani is the cousin of the KDP President Masoud Barzani. He has held several senior positions in the ranks of the KDP. He was the former President of the KDP leadership council in Sulaimani.
November last year Barzani claimed that Erbil security forces have captured Barzani’s head of guards in Erbil’s Barzan area. At the time, the forces took him to an unknown destination in the Mergasour sub-district.
Last March, He announced that “Commander Farid Abdul Aziz who is the head of my guards has been jailed for 135 days in Erbil only because he is my friend and brother.”
Back then, Barzani also stated he has been banned from returning to his family and his hometown, criticizing the political authority for disregarding democracy and freedom.
“This is the result of having certain national stances of mine,” He said in March in reference to why he resigned from the KDP in 2021.
Barzani on Tuesday announced that after more than five months of imprisonment, the head of his guards was set free.
Further, He had recently accused Masoud Barzani’s young son who is known as Babo of imprisoning the head of his guards.
In the meantime, young female US-based activist and journalist Shynar Anwar claimed that she had informed Babo to release Barzani’s senior guard otherwise it will draw “bad” reactions against Babo in the United States.
“I have no personal issue with Babo but injustice and inflicting pain on the people make me angry,” She said. “I am so glad that Barzani’s senior guard has finally returned to his family,” She added.
