PUK, CTG stress their “co-stance” following meeting

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) visited the General Directorate of the Kurdistan Region’s Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) in Sulaimani, according to a press release on Tuesday, they stressed their “co-stance”.

CTG General Directorate hosted a meeting between a PUK delegation led by Aso Mamand, the administrator of the politburo, and the Director of the force, Wahab Halbajai, among whom senior CTG commanders attended as well.

During the meeting, the PUK delegation commanded CTG’s role as a national force, particularly in times of war against the Islamic State (ISIS).

“The delegation importantly highlighted CTG’s role, in the fight against terror they have played effective roles, they confronted terrorists and endure in their sacred national endeavor,” it said.

Apart from these discussions, the PUK delegation has demonstrated the “attention” and “perspective” of their party regarding the governance situation of the Kurdistan Region.

On that matter, the two sides have stressed their “co-stance”, it said without elaborating.

Furthermore, earlier, Kurdistan Region Vice President Jafar Sheikh Mustafa paid a visit to CTG headquarters, where he vowed to fully support them, on Monday.

“The CTG was a steel hand in destroying ISIS and its threats which were possessed over the Kurdistan Region,” the vice president recently told the CTG.

“We will help to succeed in your endeavors like always, and our all efforts head to protecting the tranquility and security of the Region,” the vice President said.

Sulaimani-based CTG played an unforgettable role when they smashed the shadow of the ISIS tyranny over the region in the early stages of the war in 2014, while most of the forces had fled from the battlefields.

Back then, the Islamic State used to control roughly a third of Iraq between 2014 and 2017. However, the Iraqi forces and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition forces as well as Iran-backed Shia militias defeated the militant group in 2017.
