KRG spokesperson calls Iraqi government to prevent attacks on Khor Mor gas field

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Multiple rockets were fired toward the Kurdistan Region’s key gas field Khor Mor on Monday, but no casualties were reported.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) spokesperson Jutiar Adel strongly condemned the attack, adding that “it was carried out by the militias and outlaws militants”.

“We demand the Iraqi government to take the necessary measures in order to prevent the repetition of such terrorist attacks,” Adel said.

The spokesperson underscored the attack’s aim saying, it is to disrupt Iraq’s stability and the Kurdistan Region’s economic development.

Meanwhile, pro-Iran militia group Kataib Hezbollah exposed its stance over the field’s rocket attack, “demands prosecution of the perpetrators”.

It is not the first time the rockets target the Kurdistan Region’s major gas field, Khor Mor, inside the facility, there is a United Arab Emirates-based company (Dana gas) operating.

Over the past two months, at least three rocket attacks carried out on Khor Mor, which is located in the Qaderkaram sub-district of Sulaiamni’s Chamchamal. And Monday marked the fourth attack.

Dana Gas started production from Khor Mor in 2008. It is one of the largest gas projects in the Kurdistan Region and produces around 452 million cubic feet per day of gas.
