SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkey has decided to suspend flights to and from Iraq as part of measures against the novel coronavirus, Iraqi civil aviation authority said on Thursday (October 1).
The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority said in a statement that flights between Iraq and Turkey would be halted on Saturday (October 3) until further notice due to measures by the Turkish health authorities.
“The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority wishes to make it clear to all national carries and airlines operating in the country, as well as our esteemed passengers, that we have been informed by the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority to stop flights between Iraq and Turkey,” the statement read.
“The suspension includes the Iraqi and Turkish national carriers.”
Iraq’s aviation said Iraqis who are in Turkey would be returned to Baghdad through diplomatic channels between the two countries.
On September 22, a local official and a tourist company in the Kurdistan Region said flights between Turkey and Iraq resumed and that first flight between Erbil and Istanbul was scheduled for Sept. 26
Turkey suspended flights to and from Iraq in August and September as part of measures against the novel coronavirus.
