SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A massive fire broke out at Agri-food Wholesale Market in Sulaimani, damaging dozens of trucks and stores according to civil defense teams with the blaze remaining uncontrolled so far.
A large number of firefighters in Sulaimani have been tackling a major blaze at the city’s largest fresh trading center of the Agri-food, wholesale Market.
“The fire is yet to be controlled, fire burned down at least two floors of the building’s market,” Spokesperson to civil defense team Aram Ali said.
The fire emerged at approximately 7-8 p.m. of local time on Monday and remained uncontrolled so far, the spokesperson also said that the cause of the fire is not known yet.
The fire is thought to have started in a part of the fresh fruit and vegetable market used to store packaging and, at its peak, has engulfed two floors of the building, making it difficult to get under control.
Access to the site has been closed for the time being while investigators assess the damage and try to identify a possible cause.
Situated in southern Sulaimani city the Agri-food Wholesale Market’s fresh fruit and vegetable is the biggest center for distribution where the city’s retailers get kinds of stuff.
