Two deadly shooting incidents ‘shock’ Kurdistan Region in 24 hours

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Young Kurdish Youtuber (Ayaz Sardar) was shot dead in a deadly shooting incident in Duhok’s city center, Police said on Monday.

Late on Monday evening Ayaz Sardar 29-year-old was shot in a deadly incident, he died in hospital after he suffered severe injuries, according to Police.

Esta’s reporter in Duhok said, a bullet was shot at Ayaz’s head in the city’s grand bazaar, the victim was a famous YouTuber, and so far there is no official statement from authorities on why the incident took place.

Homicides from gun violence have gone up in the Kurdistan Region, on Tuesday morning two college professors have been shot dead as well by a fatal deliberate shooting carried out by a student in Erbil.

Dean of law faculty Kawan Ismael has been killed at the University of Salahadin in Erbil as well as Professor Edris Hama Khan was killed in his own home by the same student, according to local authorities.

Erbil governor Omed Khoshanw said, the criminal was a former student of Soran University who had been dismissed and tried to transfer to Salahadin University in Erbil, thus was led to a quarrel after Kawn Isamel refused to accept his request.

The criminal threatened Ismael several times, therefore, he has filed a lawsuit in court, However, Ismael and the criminal had a trial today but it did not take place due to the shooting, as the consequence, he killed the dean of law faculty and lecturer Hama Khan, as Khoshnaw stated.

Guns availability in the Region’s black market at very cheap prices has marked a significant reason for the rising toll of gun violence, almost every age has access to achieve firearms illegally, and authorities have long warned about the widespread carrying of Guns and rifles by local citizens.

Following Erbil’s shooting incident the Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed his deepest concern saying, “The Kurdistan Region Ministry of Interior must take any measures to eradicate unlicensed guns”.
