SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President on Wednesday expressed his heartfelt congratulations on Islamic New Year.
Marking the occasion of the Islamic New Year and the beginning of the holy month of Muharram, Talabani in his message extended his warmest congratulations to Muslims, especially in Kurdistan and Iraq.
“I hope this holy brings peace and harmony and deepens the spirit of brotherhood and coexistence in our country,” Talabani said.
“No stability will sustain if we don’t work together for the sake of establishing the spirit of tolerance,” Talabani added.
He also called for avoiding religious extremism, as well as preserving the spirit of coexistence, according to the message.
“May god protect Kurdistan and bring peace and prosperity to our country.”
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year when warfare is forbidden. It is held to be the second holiest month after Ramadan, according to Islamic sources.
