SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An 8-year-old child was killed late Monday night after an exchange of gunfire between the security forces and a narcotic gang in Erbil.

Earlier last night, a gunfight erupted in the Setaqan neighborhood of the city of Erbil after the security forces attempted to arrest a narcotic gang.

During the incident, the security forces engaged in a gunfight with the gang estimated to be six suspects according to eyewitnesses on the ground.

One member of the security forces was injured, while also an 8–year-old child was killed as a result of the gunfight between the two sides.

Dozens of vehicles were damaged by gunshots in the vicinity of the neighborhood where the incident took place.

The suspects reportedly fled from the scene immediately as the security forces launched manhunt operations.

It’s still unclear whether the child was killed by the security forces’ gunshots or the gang.
