SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan President (PUK) Bafel Talabani on Monday condemned the burning of the Muslim holy book by a Swedish-Danish far-right politician as an “attempt to destroy the spirit of coexistence”.
Talabani in a message said, “Burning the holy Koran in Sweden is far from any personal freedoms.” “It’s a failed attempt to destroy the spirit of harmony and coexistence,” he added.
Talabani further stated, “The PUK respects all religions and rejects attacks on sacrednesses,” he said in the message.
At the end of the remarks, Talabani called on the Swedish government to take legal action to prevent the repetition of such activities, according to the message.
Last Saturday, in a protest near the Turkish embassy in Stockholm, Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right party burned a copy of Islam’s holy book.
