SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The United Nations Security Council will hold a session on Tuesday, the assembly will put focus on Iraq according to a handout on Monday.
The U.N. Security Council is scheduled to hold a session to discuss the situation in Iraq at the General Headquarter of the organization in New York, it’s expected to be kicked off at 1000 N.Y. time.
In the meantime, the special representative of the Secretary-General of U.N. for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert will brief the session on developments there and the U.N. Assistance Mission there (UNAMI).
The session is followed by fresh scenes of violence and escalation in Iraq, particularly after angry Iraqis held a protest on October 1 in the capital amid the prolonged political deadlock over the new government formation.
It will also coincide with Iranian recent attacks on the Kurdistan Region that targeted Kurdish rebel groups who have established their bases there in both Erbil and Sulaimani provinces.
The attacks shocked the wider Iraq in which the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps killed 13 and Injured 58 with Kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles.
