10 Kurds among candidates secured most votes in Iraq election

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Iraqi electoral commission on Monday released names of candidates secured most of the votes during Iraq’s parliamentary election, including 10 Kurdish candidates.

The Independent High Electoral Commission announced initial results of Sunday’s parliamentary election on Monday, with Sairoon bloc of Shia cleric Moqtada al-Sadr winning more than 70 seats.

Separately, the commission released names of 18 candidates who won most of the votes during the election.

Among them were 10 Kurdish candidates in Kirkuk, Erbil, Sulaimani, and Duhok, according to the IHEC’s data.

Jamal Ahmed Mohammed, known as Jamal Kochar, won 45,079 votes in Duhok followed by Dawd Idan Dawd Atiya with 33,212 votes in Dhi Qar.

Shakhawan Abdullah Ahmed from Kirkuk comes at third place with 31,548 votes and Mohammed Rekan Hadid occupies fourth place with 30,932 votes in Anbar.

Nahro Mahmoud Qadir got 29,649 votes in Erbil and Ala Kamil Jabbar secured 29,196 votes in Dhi Qar, according to the IHEC.

The commission also said Sipan Aziz Hadu won 25,233 votes in Erbil while Asaad Abdulamir Abdulqadir attained 24,137 votes in Basra.

Mohammed Sideeq Mohammed won 24,128 votes in Erbil followed by Nisan Abdulradha Zabr with 22,827 votes in Dhi Qar.

Srwa Abdulwahid Qadr secured 22,634 votes in Sulaimani’s fourth circle and Khalid Saleem Amin got 22,223 votes in Duhok.

Mawfuq Shahab Pasha won 22,147 votes in Duhok, while Mohammed Ali Mohammed from Kirkuk got 21,047 votes.

Khalil Ghazi Hassan obtained 20,592 votes in Duhok, Kadhim Musa Ata won 20,281 votes in Dhi Qar, Arshad Rashad Fatihullah obtained 19,584 votes in Kirkuk, and Omed Mohammed Ahmed of Kirkuk also won 19,489 votes.
