PUK President receives French Ambassador to Iraq

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Talabani, received the French Ambassador to Iraq, Eric Chevalier, in Baghdad on Thursday.

Talabani who is in the Iraqi capital for a visit met with French Ambassador, discussing the latest changes and political as well as economic developments in Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.

The pair also discussed unifying the efforts to pass the obstacle, stressing overcoming the problems.

In the meeting, the PUK president pointed out the political steps that have been taken by the PUK for the sake of building a more stable future.

“The country needs unity to overcome the problems,” Talabani told the French ambassador.

He also reiterated that the PUK’s aim is to restore unity and bolster trust between the political forces.

In the meantime, the two sides highlighted Kurdistan-France bilateral ties.

“France is a major partner of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq,” said Talabani.

He also hoped France to play a further “effective” role in developing Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.
