Kurdistan Region logs highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region has reported the highest single-day rise in COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours, said the ministry of health on Wednesday.

The health ministry said in a statement that it had registered a record number of 1,078 new COVID-19 infections in the Kurdistan Region.

The ministry further said it had recorded 422 cases in Erbil, 100 in Sulaimani, 24 in Garmian, 24 more in Raparin, 471 in Duhok and 37 in Halabja.

Fifteen more patients had died from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, while 375 others had recovered, the ministry said.

The Region’s total number of infections reached 64,823, of which 2,226 died and 38,561 recovered, according to the ministry of health.

Meanwhile, Iraqi ministry of health said it had recorded 3,667 new COVID-19 cases, 52 deaths and 2,876 recoveries.

So far, Iraq has recorded 438,265 coronavirus cases, with 10,418 deaths and 369,010 recoveries.
