SULAIMANI (ESTA) — People with disabilities protested in Sulaimani on Monday against the government’s failure to pay their salaries.

Dozens of persons with disabilities gathered outside the building of Sulaimani governorate in protest against their poor condition of living.

The protesters sit around table clothes they laid on the street, showing authorities that they have no food for Eid al-Adha, which is on July 20.

The people with disabilities called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to pay their salaries before eid.

“Officials’ children go abroad to receive treatment when they get sick. Why isn’t it for me? Am I not a human? Do my children not want rights and life?” a protester told reporters.

“We get paid once in two months,” said another protester, holding a piece of bread to show that they don’t have enough food.

Saman Hussein, head of the Kurdistan handicapped union, said many people with disabilities had told him that they did not have enough food for Eid al-Adha.

“We came here to get food for eid. Thousands of people came to our organization, asking me to get food for them for eid,” he told Esta Media Network.
