SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region has recorded the second-biggest single-day rise in coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, said a senior health official on Monday.

Health Minister Saman Barzinji said 3,559 new coronavirus cases and 13 deaths had been recorded in the Kurdistan Region.

“Most of the cases were in Duhok province,” the minister said in a press conference in Duhok city.

The health minister warned that the “health situation in the Kurdistan Region for coronavirus spread is getting worse.”

“We have only two ranks to reach the red color, which is the dangerous situation of the coronavirus outbreak,” he noted.

It was the second-highest daily rise in coronavirus infections since the pandemic began. On Sunday, the Region recorded 2,178 cases and 14 deaths.

The new cases brought the Region’s tallies to 217,565 and 4,702 deaths.
