SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraq’s civil aviation authority said Iraqis traveling abroad should present coronavirus vaccination certificate, starting in October.

The civil aviation authority said the new decision was made during a meeting held on June 8, as part of efforts to encourage people to receive coronavirus vaccines.

“All Iraqis traveling outside Iraq should present the international certificate of COVID-19 vaccination, starting from October 1, in addition to the requirements of the country to which you want to travel,” it said in a statement on Sunday.

People who cannot receive vaccines due to “special cases” are exempted from the decision, but required to take a PCR test before traveling, it added.

Iraqis who were infected by the virus three months before traveling also need to take a PCR test, the civil aviation authority stated.

It has also informed all airlines operating in the country to abide by the new instruction.

The new travel instruction comes as COVID-19 cases are rising rapidly. On Sunday, the ministry of health recorded 9,147 new infections and 55 deaths.

As of Sunday, Iraq had registered a total of 1,552,684 infections and 18,287 deaths, according to official figures.
