SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Tuesday opened Ruvia-Gopal three-lane road connecting Erbil to Duhok province.

The KRG premier said during his participation in opening the Ruvia-Gopal road that the project was “one of the strategic projects” in the Kurdistan Region.

“People don’t only want salaries, but they also want schools, hospitals, roads and service projects because people are not all [government] wage earners, and they have rights on us and we have to serve them,” Barzani said.

The length of the road is 22 kilometers and it includes six overpasses, a bridge and a three-kilometer highway. The project was approved in the eight cabinet of the KRG in 2018, and the operations started in 2019.

Despite economic crisis, the KRG has announced the construction of several projects in the Region. On October 13, the KRG premier laid the foundation stone for the Darbandi Rania bridge in the district, north of Sulaimani.

The prime minister had also laid the foundation stones for a 100-bed hospital in Deraluk sub-district and the 100-meter highway project in Sulaimani.
