SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region resumed in-person classes in schools on Sunday, after several months of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Supreme Committee to Combat Coronavirus ordered the closure of schools on March 30, as part of measures to curb COVID-19 outbreak.

Assistant director of education in Sulaimani Omer Mohammed said in-person classes had resumed in all schools and education centers.

“The in-person classes would be three days in a week until the end of June,” Mohammed told Esta Media Network.

“Students can still study online if they don’t come back to in-person classes due to fears of infection with coronavirus,” he said.

The Kurdistan Region had recorded more than 160,000 COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, including 4,150 deaths, according to the health ministry.
