Turkey sets up military points in Kurdistan Region’s Barwari Balla area

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Turkish military has set up military points in Barwari Balla area in the Kurdistan Region’s Amedi district, as intermittent clashes continue between Turkish troops deployed there and fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Esta Media Network reporter Dilshad Himo said the Turkish military had established three more military points in the villages of Hirure, Chalki and Kesta after its warplanes bombed Barwari Balla area.

Clashes also erupted between Turkish troops and PKK fighters as they parachuted down from military helicopters, he added.

Casualties and damages are still unclear.

Turkey has set up dozens of military bases and points in the Kurdistan Region, according to Kurdish authorities.

Meanwhile, Turkish warplanes bombed suspected PKK positions in Avashin area in Shiladze sub-district on Saturday.

Turkey has conducted numerous ground and aerial cross-border offensives into neighboring northern Iraq to attack the PKK fighters, who maintains bases in the region.
