Commander Convoy of Kurdistan Commando forces hits improvised bomb in Garmian; one dead

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Commander Convoy of the Kurdistan Commando forces struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Sulaimani’s Garmian district killing one and wounding four others including the commander, authorities said on Wednesday

The explosion took place Wednesday morning in the Garmian district, Precisely in the village of Qumpall, where the forces were in the middle of conducting an operation against the Islamic State (IS) remnants.

At least five casualties were reported, among whom the commander of the Kurdistan Commando Forces, Akam Omar included, according to Esta Media Network reporter.

Omar was immediately transferred to a hospital in Sulaimani with one of his guards due to suffering from severe injuries from the blast. The rest of the injured Commando members remained in Hazhar hospital of Kalar district.

Kurdistan Commando Forces is a special force affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Local reports said that Senior Commander Omar is in critical health condition.
