Kurdistan Region records highest single-day rise in coronavirus cases

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — New coronavirus cases in the Kurdistan Region rose by 601 on Thursday, according to the health ministry, the highest single-day rise this year.

In a statement, the Region’s health ministry said it had recorded 188 cases in Erbil, 158 in Sulaimani, 216 in Duhok, two in Halabja and 37 in Garmian.

The Region also logged five deaths in Erbil, Duhok and Garmian, the ministry added. As many as 222 patients also recovered from the virus in the previous 24 hours.

The Kurdistan Region’s total number of infections reached 117,412, with 3,622 deaths and 107,640 recoveries, the ministry’s figures showed.
