Peshmerga seizes ammunition cache set for terrorist attack

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdish Peshmerga forces have seized an ammunition cache that had been prepared to launch a terrorist attack, according to a statement late Sunday.

The press office of the Ministry of Peshmerga stated that the second legion of the 16th brigade of the Peshmerga infantry forces seized an ammunition cache in the Nawjul district of the disputed territories after obtaining intelligence information, it said in a statement.

The ammunition cache consisted of dozens of 120-mm mortar shells belonging to terrorists that had been prepared to launch an attack.

The statement did not offer further information.

Territories stretching across the provinces of Kirkuk, Salahaddin, and Diyala in the north of Iraq are seen to be disputed since it has been claimed by both the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Iraqi government, suffering from a security vacuum.
