Kurdistan Region Deputy PM meets German Consul General in Erbil

Deputy PM Qubad Talabani amid meeting with CG Klemens Semtner

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region deputy of prime minister Qubad Talabani praised Germany’s role in supporting reform in the Region amid a meeting with the country’s consul general in Erbil on Wednesday.

Deputy premier Qubad Talabani met with the German consul general Klemens Semtner on the occasion of ending his assignment in the Region.

“Deputy PM appreciated Semtner’s role in developing the ties between the Kurdistan  Region and Germany, and wished more improvements of the ties in other various fields,” Talabani said according to a statement released by his media office.

“Talabani praised Germany’s role for its support in reforming process within the Peshmerga forces,” it said.

Another part of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the latest political developments in Iraq and the ongoing unrest, as mentioned in the statement.

“Both sides expressed concerns in deepening the disputes in Baghdad, and agreed that the Iraqi parties must de-escalate the situation for the sake of the country’s stability and people’s interests”, and “try to resolve the problems with national dialogue” it added.

Regarding the political relations between the Kurdish parties, both sides agreed that Iraq is going through a complicated situation, and the Kurdish parties shall consider the sensitivity of the situation, according to the statement.

“The Kurdish parties must try to protect the constitutional right of the Kurdish people with one unified discourse” it continued.
