Kurdistan Region’s COVID-19 cases surge past 50,000: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region’s coronavirus cases exceeded 50,000 on Sunday, according to the health ministry.

The Region’s Ministry of Health said in a statement that it had recorded 620 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, raising the total number to 50,248.

The ministry further said it had registered 276 new cases in Erbil, 79 in Sulaimani, 24 in Garmian, 217 in Duhok and 24 in Halabja.

The health ministry added that 19 more patients had died from the virus in previous 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 1,826.

Two deaths were in Erbil, eight in Sulaimani, one in Garmian, two in Raparin, one in Duhok and five in Halabja.

As many as 324 more patients had recovered from the novel coronavirus, the health ministry said, taking the total number to 31,996.
