PUK President, Babylon Movement Secretary-General: ‘components must truly represent themselves’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Talabani, on Tuesday, in Sulaimani, received the Secretary-General of the Babylon Movement, Rayan Al-Kdlani.

“In a meeting, the latest political developments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed, stressing coordination and joint work to succeed the country’s political process,” a statement by Talabani’s media office said.

“President Talabani referred to the significance and enduring the talks to settle the problems and working for reviving the country in all different fields,” the statement added.

“The constitution must be the foundation to settle the problems and all of us must work in the direction of addressing the issues,” Talabani said, according to the statement.

“It’s our historical and national responsibility to secure a stable life for our people,” Talabani stressed.

The statement also added that the two sides also discussed the election issue in the Kurdistan Region and protecting the rights of components.

“Both sides agreed that the components must truly represent themselves and allow no one to decide on behalf of them,” it said.
