Kurdistan Region records biggest daily jump in COVID-19 cases

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region recorded the biggest daily jump in new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, topping nearly 1,600 infections.

In a statement, the ministry of health said it had recorded 1,597 new cases in the past 24 hours in the Kurdistan Region.

The health ministry added that it had registered 703 new cases in Erbil, 169 in Sulaimani, 651 in Duhok, 28 in Halabja, 34 in Garmian and 12 in Raparin.

The ministry further said it had recorded 24 new deaths in the previous 24 hours. Two deaths were in Erbil, eight in Sulaimani, five in Duhok, two in Halabja, two more in Garmian and five in Raparin.

As many as 475 more patients had recovered from COVID-19, the ministry stated.

The Region’s total number of infections reached 71,752, of which 2,361 died and 40,909 recovered, according to figures released by the health ministry.

Earlier on Tuesday, Iraqi ministry of health said it had recorded 4,510 new cases, 53 deaths and 3,488 recoveries in the previous 24 hours.

So far, Iraq has registered 459,908 cases, with 10,724 deaths and 388,081 recoveries.
