PUK president: Any attempt to postpone the election will harm Kurdistan region

SULAIAMANI – (ESTA) Bafel Jalal Talabani, the president of Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) said that any attempt to postpone the election will harm the Kurdistan region and call into question the legal and administrative authorities.

The PUK president received David Burger, Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Iraq, in Sulaimani on Wednesday. In a meeting attended by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Head of the Relations Bureau of PUK, the issue of election in the Kurdistan Region was discussed and stressed the importance and necessity of fair election that respond to the demands and bring about change in the region.

In the meeting, Talabani reaffirmed the PUK’s commitment to the deadline set by the Kurdistan Regional Government for the elections and said that any attempt to postpone the election will harm our region and question the legal and administrative authorities.

The PUK President said that, “the elections will strengthen the structure of the Kurdistan Region and show a democratic image of our region to the international community”.
