SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Bafel Talabani, the newly re-elected President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received congratulations from the United States on Monday.

Talabani met with David Burger, the Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Baghdad, at his office in Sulaimani. The meeting was also attended by Mark Stroh, the US Consul General in Erbil.

Burger extended his congratulations to Talabani following the successful conclusion of the PUK’s fifth congress and the election of a new leadership.

During the meeting, Talabani and the US delegation discussed the overall situation in the country and the state of relations between Erbil and Baghdad.

They emphasized the importance of resolving issues to maintain regional stability and protect the rights of the people.

Talabani acknowledged the “positive” efforts made by Washington in addressing these issues and called for continued commitment to the stability of the region and adherence to the constitution and previously agreed-upon deals.

He warned that “any actions taken outside of these parameters would be detrimental to the public interest.”

Regarding the Kurdistan Region’s federal financial entitlements, Talabani emphasized that their priority is to ensure the timely delivery of these funds. He also stressed that this issue should not be intertwined with political issues.
