The 39th anniversary of Mama Risha’s martyrdom is today

SULAIMANI – (ESTA) Even after 39 years of martyrdom, they never lost sight of the Kurdish people or their homeland.

Mama Risha, or Najmadin Shukur Rauf, was born in Talabani village in the Chamchamal district of the Garmian area in 1955. In Kurdistan, he is regarded as a revered and adored guy as well as a Peshmerga emblem.

Under the impact of his youth, he traveled to Syria in 1972 and spent five years fighting as a volunteer for the Palestinian Liberation Movement in western Syria and southern Lebanon, marking the beginning of the upheavals for national freedom and independence.

After his return to Kurdistan in 1977, Mama Risha became a Peshmerga in the new revolution for his country, as the Ba’ath regime’s degrading and expulsion campaign in Kurdistan reached its height, resulting in the tragedy of devastated villages and displaced farmers.

He was martyred on December 24, 1985, along with two other Peshmerga, Sardar and Mohsin, in an ambush on the route connecting the villages of Khala Baziani and Kawala in the Jabari area.
