SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s Union of Men said on Saturday that it had recorded 553 cases of violence against men in 2020.
Head of the Region’s Union of Men Burhan Ali said the cases had increased in compare with 2019, when it was 545 cases of violence.
“Cases of violence against men in the Kurdistan Region has been rising since 2012,” Ali said in a press conference. “The data which is recorded by us is lesser than the real number of cases in the society.”
There were 91 cases of murder and suicide of men in 2020, Ali added, noting that eight of the men were killed by their wives in coordination with other people.
Thirty-seven elderly men were evicted from home last year, he continued. There were also 52 cases of betrayal of marriage, 11 cases of physical abuse and 20 cases of sexual and psychological stress.
The Kurdistan Region’s Union of Men also recorded 227 cases of preventing men from seeing their children, according to Ali.
The union has registered 3,797 cases of violence against men between 2014 and 2020.
