Member of Iraqi Council of Representatives Ghalib Mohammed

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) denounced an attack on Kurdish lawmaker Ghalib Mohammed in Sulaimani city on Friday.

The member of Iraqi Council of Representatives had been stabbed in face and head with knife by a man outside his house in Sulaimani city on Friday evening.

“The KRG strongly condemns the attack on lawmaker Ghalib Mohammed in Sulaimani city,” KRG spokesman Jotiar Adil said in a statement early on Saturday.

“The security services have been directed to find perpetrators so as to bring them to justice as soon as possible,” he added.

Adil further said that the KRG would do its “utmost” to protect people’s life in any position.

“Any kinds of attack on citizens won’t pass without legal punishment.”

It was still unclear who attacked the lawmaker, discharged at hospital after receiving treatment.

KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani also condemned the attack on Friday, saying he directed the security forces to bring the perpetrators to justice.
