PUK President Honors Father of Martyr Akam with Award

PUK President says Akam’s name will always be remembered as a prominent and brilliant figure in the history of their struggle.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President on Monday Welcomed Omar Othman, the father of the late Commander Akam Omar at the Commando Forces headquarters in Sulaimani and presneted an award.

Talabani expressed his admiration for the father of the late Commander Akam Omar, stating that Commander Akam holds a distinguished and remarkable position in the history of their struggle, according to a statement from his office.

During the meeting, Talabani also inquired about the well-being and circumstances of the Akam’s family, while praising their resilience and bravery as examples of the Kurdish struggle.

He further stated that Akam’s name will always be remembered as a prominent and brilliant figure in the history of their struggle.

In response, the father of the late Akam congratulated Talabani on his re-election as the President of the PUK and expressed his hope that the new leadership would promote unity within the PUK and improve the lives of the people.

In December of last year, Commander Akam was tragically martyred as a result of injuries sustained from an improvised explosive device (IED) blast.

This occurred during a military convoy operation against the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) in the Zenana area of Graminan in October of the same year.

Despite being admitted to a hospital for nearly two months, the late Commander ultimately succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment in Germany.

Following his passing, his body was flown back to the Kurdistan Region via Sulaiamani international airport and laid to rest in his birthplace of Erbil on December 12th.

Throughout the Kurdistan Region, mass funeral ceremonies were held to mourn the loss of Commander Akam and honor his service and sacrifice.
