PUK Congress’s fifth day is happening today

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The fifth day of the fifth Congress of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) is set to take place on Sunday.

The Congress has been ongoing since Wednesday, with the presence of 600 members.

The party’s by-law provisions have been a major topic of discussion in Congress, with 45 out of 65 articles having been approved so far. The remaining 20 articles are expected to be resolved today, according to a congress member.

One of the key decisions to be made during the Congress is the election of members of the leadership council. The elections will be held after the remaining provisions of the by-law have been resolved.

The discussions on the provisions of the by-law are ongoing, with a congress member confirming that they are striving to establish a “strong” and “effective leadership” for the next four years.

Ziad Jabar, a member of the PUK congress, had earlier expressed the importance of having a well-crafted set of laws for the next four years. Consequently, the discussions on the provisions of the by-law continue.

“The PUK is committed to finding a good by-law that will guide the party for the next four years,” Jabar said.

This ongoing congress holds great significance for the PUK. It was originally scheduled to conclude on Friday.

The Congress is set to come to a close following the election of the new leadership council. However, this crucial step will only occur if all the provisions outlined in the by-law are successfully passed.

PUK’s re-elected President Bafel Talabani stated that this Congress marks a new phase in their party’s journey towards “reconciliation, unity, and progress.”

“As the PUK, we are determined to make any sacrifices necessary for the betterment of our nation,” he said during the congress inauguration.

PUK members also are exuding immense satisfaction with the congress processions, confidently embracing the “open” and “unrestricted environment” that allows for thorough and robust debates on party-related matters, according to media.
