SULAIMANI (ESTA) — At least 30 goats and sheep were killed and injured as a result of stray dogs’ attack on a barn in the town of Bahrka on the outskirts of Erbil City.
“In the early hours of this morning, stray dogs attacked a barn in Bahrka and killed 15 sheep and goats and injured 15 others,” Esta Media Network reporter said.
The number of homeless dogs significantly increased in the residential areas, including cities and town centers of the Kurdistan Region.
In many countries around the world, stray dogs still represent a huge burden for society.
Recently, dozens of stray dog attacks on the locals were reported in different areas and some of them caused fatality.
A 4-year-old child died in the city of Erbil last month after a mob of stray dogs mauled her in front of her house.
Local authorities have frequently launched catching operations to catch stray dogs loitering the streets downtown.
The government has also built dozens of shelters, on the outskirts of the cities designed to take in thousands of stray dogs from the streets.
A massive shelter on 20 dunams of land on the outskirts of the city of Erbil is currently under construction.
