PUK, KDP meet in Erbil on election talks

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the rival Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) on Sunday met and discussed the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Earlier this morning, a delegation from the PUK politburo was received by the KDP at its politburo headquarters in Erbil.

Esta Media Network has learned that discussions were focused on disputed points in the upcoming parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region, particularly the contentious quota seats.

They also touched upon steps to amend the electoral law and reactivate the election commission as perorations to hold the election on time which is scheduled for Nov. 18.

Earlier on yesterday, Saadi Ahmed Pira, a member of the PUK politburo stressed adopting dialogue to terminate PUK-KDP differences.

“The PUK and KDP should terminate their differences through dialogue,” He said amid a press briefing.

Pira also underscored that it’s “unacceptable” to deceive the PUK “through doors and windows of the quota seats.”

“We have already declared that no football matches should start where in advance one team scored 11 goals.”
