Erbil, Duhok banks withhold PUK Peshmerga Pensioners’ monthly wages

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Peshmerga Pensioners who belong to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) were deprived of receiving their monthly wages in Erbil and Duhok provinces on Thursday.

The Peshmerga pensioners who belong to the PUK were informed inside the banks in that they will not be paid and did not get their monthly wages. The payment has been disrupted and withheld by the banks for unclear reasons.

Massive security personnel is deployed around Hamrin Bank in Erbil, where the pensioners should have received their salaries.

Esta Media Network reporter near the vicinity of Hamrin bank said as many as hundreds of armed men who are Zervani forces have been deployed.

The Zervani forces have dispersed the pensioners and prevented media coverage, according to the reporter.

A PUK Peshmerga pensioner who spoke to the reporter said that the Hamrin bank told them that they will not be paid because the pensioners who belong to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in Sulaimani have allegedly not been paid as well.

Makwan Jamil Mustafa, the General Director of the Ashti Bank which is responsible to pay the salaries of the KDP pensioners in Sulaimani refuted the allegations in a statement to Esta Media Network.

“The allegations are baseless, there is money and everyone already received their salaries,” He said.
