PUK President receives Iraqi Prime Minister in Sulaimani

The Iraqi Prime Minister stated that “The political stability of Iraq depends on the political stability of the Region,” he said, according to the statement.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani on Wednesday received Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and his accompanying delegation in Sulaimani on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the political, security, and economic changes in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region were discussed, according to a statement released by Talabani’s office.

The pair also stressed supporting the national Iraqi project which comprises offering service, and enforcing the law as well as stability, the office added in the statement.

During the meeting, the PUK President thanked the Prime Minister for recognizing of the Kurdish city of Halabja as the 19th governorate of Iraq.

The Federal Government on Monday recognized the Kurdish city of Halabja as its 19th governorate following an executive order.

“Practical steps must be made to reconstruct Halabja,” Talabani told Sudani, according to the statement.

Regarding the Iraqi budget law of 2023 which had been approved by the Council of Ministers Last Tuesday, the PUK President added that “It is an important step and the people’s economic stability should be safeguarded.”

In the meantime, the PUK President reiterated the PUK’s keenness to succeed and implementation of the government agenda in a manner that offers further service.

He also stressed a political solution to address the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad.

“We want the people with our friends. We believe in real partnership and cooperation,” the PUK President continued.

Moreover, in return, the Iraqi Prime Minister stated that “The political stability of Iraq depends on the political stability of the Region,” he said, according to the statement.
