Former President says fall of Saddam’s regime was achievement of century

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Former Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Wednesday that the fall of Saddam Hussien’s regime in 2003 was the greatest achievement of the century.

The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) has formally begun a two-day forum, “Sulaiman Fourm 2023”, in Sulaimani city on Wednesday with tens of politicians, diplomats, and leaders attending the event.

The themes of the ongoing forum are “Iraq 20 Years After the Invasion of 2003, The Impact of the Ukraine War on Iraq and MENA, and Climate Change and Water Scarcity.”

“Today, as we gather here, 20 years have passed since the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime, which was the greatest achievement of the century,” Salih said at the forum.

“Six governments have changed peacefully in Iraq since that crucial event,” Salih added. “20 years on, it is time for us to reflect in a serious way on what we have done.”
