Iraq supports unity of Kurdish leaders: Prime Minister

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said on Wednesday that the Kurdistan Region’s strength is the strength of Iraq

The “Sulaiman Fourm 2023” kicked off in Sulaimani on Wednesday, with the participation of tens of politicians, diplomats, and leaders “It’s crucial for Iraq that the Kurdistan Region is strong and Iraq supports the unity of the Kurdish leaders,” Sudani said at the forum.

“We are one nation and one country,” Sudani told the conference’s attendants.

“We will never allow the Iraqi soil to be used for threatening other country’s soil, every country should respect the Iraqi sovereignty.”

Speaking on corruption in the country Sudani stated: “Corruption threats Iraq. It’s a pandemic that requires vaccine.”

Moreover, regarding the clime change effects on the country, the Iraqi leader stated that Iraq is currently in severe water shortage, calling for support from the international community to face climate change and address the environmental issues.

The Institute of Regional and International Studies (IRIS) has formally begun the two-day forum in Sulaimani city with tens of politicians, diplomats, and leaders attending the event.

The themes of the ongoing forum are “Iraq 20 Years After the Invasion of 2003, The Impact of the Ukraine War on Iraq and MENA, and Climate Change and Water Scarcity.”

The event coincides with new political developments in Iraq, including the formation of a new government in October 2022 after a year of prolonged political deadlock and the emerging climate crises that grasped the country.
