U.S. State Secretary sends letter to Kurdistan President

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday received a letter from the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, according to a statement. 

“In his letter, Mr. Blinken expresses delight over his discussions with President Nechirvan Barzani on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference last February,” read a statement from the Kurdistan Region presidency.

“Secretary Blinken says that the discussions in Munich were an opportunity to underscore the need to completely resolve the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad through dialogue and understanding,” it added.

“Also in the letter, the US Secretary of State reiterates the United States’ commitment to strengthen cooperation and partnership with the Federal Republic of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and expresses his country’s continued solid support for Iraq’s stability, security and sovereignty.”
