Deputy Prime Minister receives German Foreign Minister

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Wednesday received German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Erbil, covering topics on Kurdistan-Baghdad relations, internal issues, and ties with Germany.

“In the meeting, the Deputy Prime minister extended his support to the incumbent Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, wishing the new government to be able to pass the budget including the oil and gas bill but in the interest of all Iraq,” a statement released by the Deputy Prime minister office said.

The Deputy Prime Minister also that the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad agreement in the oil and gas bill “will lead to the resolution of remaining issues between Erbil and Baghdad, bringing political and security stability and reviving the economy across Iraq,” he said, according to the statement.

Moreover, the Deputy Prime Minister and the German Foreign Minister discussed the Kurdistan Region’s internal political situation, where both sides agreed that the political disagreements must be resolved through dialogue.

“The German government supports a united and integrated Kurdistan Region, therefore the internal disagreements must be settled,” the German Foreign Minister said.

Regarding Erbil-Baghdad relations, the German Foreign Minister emphasized, the German government support addressing the issues between Erbil and Baghdad, saying “There should be a strong and solid relationship on the foundation of the constitution between the two governments to result in political and security stability,” she said, according to the statement.

Moreover, discussions also touched upon Kurdistan-Germany ties, where the Deputy Prime Minister asked the German Government to be a supporter in reviving the economy and providing job opportunities across the Kurdistan Region, bringing inclusive economic flourishment.

Germany’s Baerbock made an official visit to Iraq on Tuesday, where she had earlier met with Iraqi officials in Baghdad including Prime Minster Mohammed Al-Sudani.
