SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Three Turkish soldiers were killed in attack carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province on Tuesday, Turkey’s defense ministry said.

In a statement, the Turkish defense ministry said the PKK carried out a rocket attack against a military unit during its cross-border operation in Duhok on Tuesday.

Three soldiers were killed and two others were wounded in the attack, the ministry added.

On April 18, Turkey launched a cross-border operation against the PKK in several areas in Duhok.

Turkish warplanes, helicopters and drones were part of the air and land operation in the Kurdistan Region against PKK facilities ranging from camps to ammunition stores.

The military action was part of a long-running Turkish campaign in Iraq and Syria against PKK fighters and the People’s Protection Units (YPG), both regarded as terrorist groups by Ankara.

Turkey regularly launches airstrikes into the Kurdistan Region and has sent commandos to support its offensives.
