Young man in Erbil has been shot dead by his family-in-law: police

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A young man on Saturday has been shot dead by his family-in-law in Erbil, police said, possibly over a social-related issue.

“Last night, a shooting incident has been reported in Erbil’s Sarbasti neighborhood,” read a statement from the Erbil police department.

“After investigations, it found out a 32-year-old man has been shot dead by his family-in-law,” it added.

The victim succumbed to his injuries after he had been admitted to the hospital, according to police statement.

Police did not offer further detail regarding the shooting incident.

Settling social issues in a violent way is a common problem in the Kurdistan Region where people decide to resolve their issues outside of the legal bodies.

Moreover, firearms availability in the Region’s black market at very cheap prices has marked a significant reason for the rising toll of gun homicide.

Authorities have long warned about the widespread carrying of Guns and rifles by local citizens.
