Sole ultimate option before Kurdistan and Baghdad is agreement: Qubad Talabani

KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) —  The sole ultimate option before the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Federal government is an agreement, said the deputy prime minister on Monday after a new round of Kurdistan-Baghdad negotiations with the incumbent Iraqi cabinet which took office in October last year.

Speaking on the political situation in Iraq, the KRG deputy prime minister, Qubad Talabani, said “the first and last option before the KRG and the Federal government is a comprehensive and long-lasting agreement in accordance with the constitution,” he said in a statement.

The agreement must be in the interest of all Iraqi and Kurdish citizens, he added.

Talabani further added that “The people of Iraq including the Kurdistan Region demand service and welfare,” according to the statement. “Kurdistan-Baghdad agreement provides a convenient ground for both sides’ cooperation to work for implementation of the people’s demand and amending the services’ condition.”

He also hoped the Kurdistan-Baghdad relations to reach a “perfect” level, voicing optimism to address the issues with the incumbent Iraqi government which is headed by prime minister Mohammed al-Sudani.

Talabani’s words came after he arrived in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, meeting with several senior political officials there to discuss the situation of the Iraqi political arena including the Kurdistan Region.
