SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region Presidency on Wednesday released a statement regarding the recent visit of the senior U.S. delegations to Kurdistan, urging for unity.
A high-level delegation landed in Kurdistan on Tuesday where they met with the Kurdish senior parties and government officials, discussing the latest developments in the region and ways to address inter-party disputes, separately.
The deputy assistant of the U.S. President and the white house coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, headed the delegation.
“The Kurdistan Region is facing multiple challenges and uncertain times,” said the statement from the Kurdistan Region presidency which was followed by the visit of the U.S. delegation.
“Today, more than ever, we need unity and cooperation among all sides, and specifically between the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), which together, hold the future of our Region in their hands,” the statement added.
Moreover, it further called for the Kurdistan Region political parties “To set aside their differences and commit to resolving their issues through dialogue and understanding and with an open heart.”
“What unites us is much greater than what divides us. We must all act responsibly in order to be able to restore stability and unity, and to protect and advance the interests of the people of the Kurdistan Region,” it continued.
