Lawmaker throws his shoes at Kurdistan Parliament’s Presidency

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — An opposition lawmaker threw his shoes at the Kurdistan parliament’s presidency on Wednesday.

The Kurdistan parliament convened on Wednesday to finish the first reading of two bills, to vote on a draft law on the protection of local products, to finish the second reading of a bill on water conservation of water.

Head of New Generation caucus Kazim Faruq threw his shows at the parliament’s presidency, including speaker, deputy speaker and a secretary, after Speaker Rewas Fayyaq didn’t allow Faruq to continue speaking as he was criticizing the speaker and her deputy.

“You and your deputy have exploited the parliament’s program,” Faruq told the parliament’s speaker, who turned the microphone off for the New Generation lawmaker.

“I as the speaker of parliament would forgive him if the shows were [thrown] at me. But let people know him. He defined himself by that act,” Fayyaq said.

“If he threw the shows at the Kurdistan parliament as institution, let the parliament take its measures. Dr. Kazim Faruq cannot come back to the meeting in accordance with Article 57 of [Parliament’s by-laws],” she added.
