PUK President delivers demands of Kurdish traders, businessmen, entrepreneurs to U.S. diplomats

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President, Bafel Talabani, on Wednesday delivered the demands of the Kurdish traders, businessmen, and entrepreneurs to the U.S. consul general in Erbil, Irvin Hicks. Jr. 

Talabani in Sulaimani’s Dabashan area received the consul and his accompanying delegation, read Talabani’s office in a statement.

In a meeting, strengthening the ties and expanding support in the fields of investment, agriculture, and bolstering the Kurdistan Region economic infrastructure were emphasized.

Moreover, discussions also touched upon the role of freedom of expression and independent media in promoting democracy.

Talabani delivered the demands of the Kurdish traders, businessmen, and entrepreneurs to the U.S. consul general, calling for their support and coordination, the office in the statement said.

Talabani also praised the role of the constant support of the U.S.-led coalition forces. The coalition forces are a “major” partaker in the operations against the terrorists, stepping toward stability in the region, according to Talabani’s words.

Last week, the PUK president met with representatives of Sulaimani investors, entrepreneurs, and businessmen, according to a statement.

The meeting discussed the status of Sulaimani’s market during which the PUK president said, “No one is allowed to meddle inside Sulaimani’s market.”

Moreover, during the meeting, the representatives said, “A Political hand is meddling to destabilize Sulaimani’s market, publishing alleged rumors about money laundering in the city.”

“These rumors are baseless and failed attempts to impede the market.”
