SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The director of the Kurdistan Region’s Protection and Information/Information agency, Jala Sheikh Naji, on Tuesday, received a high-ranking delegation of the U.S.-led Coalition forces, headed by Colonel Javier Soria.
In a meeting, the two sides discussed the coordination between the security forces of Kurdistan Region and Iraq as well as the coalition forces, aiming at the integration of intelligence efforts to fulfill security and stability in the region, said a press release.
For his part, the agency’s director stressed developing the security, intelligence, and military relations to root out the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants, while also countering objectives that jeopardize the security of the Region, it said.
The Kurdish official also said that they have “complete” coordination with the Iraqi forces which resulted in foiling several terrorists’ plots based on accurate intelligence information, according to the press release.
He further stated that the forces had conducted several operations with the support of the coalition forces in the direction of further stability in the Region and Iraq, it added.
ISIS controlled roughly a third of Iraq between 2014 and 2017. Iraqi forces and Kurdish troops backed by U.S.-led Coalition forces as well as Iran-backed Shia militias defeated the militant group in 2017, but its members still roam areas of northern Iraq and northeastern Syria.
