Sulaimani holds 40th mourning ceremony of martyr lieutenant Zuher Mohammed

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The 40th mourning ceremony of martyr lieutenant Zuher Mohammed, an officer of the Kurdistan Commando Forces was held in Sulaimani on Tuesday.

Martyr Mohammed was killed after Commander Convoy of the Kurdistan Commando forces struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Sulaimani’s Garmian administration, in the midst of an anti-ISIS operation in late October.

In the ceremony, a number of other officials, relatives, friends, and collogues attended, marking the 40th mourning ceremony of martyr lieutenant Zuher by delivering speeches, and paying tributes to him.

“Zuher had gone into the depth of the last points of Kurdistan territory to fight against the ISIS terrorists,” said Wasta Rasoul, a member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leadership Council.

Back then, the terrorists’ bombing also resulted in injuring four other officers including the Commander of the forces, Akam Omar despite martyring lieutenant Zuher.

It’s important to mention that Commander Omar was severely injured. He was immediately transferred via helicopter to a hospital in Sulaimani. After ten days of staying in the hospital, Omar transferred to Germany and is currently under treatment there.

Kurdistan Commando Forces is a special force affiliated with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), it played a major role during the Islamic State war in Iraq since 2014, and received training from the U.S.-led collation forces, particularly France and Germany.

They are well-equipped and trained forces, in comparison to other forces, they have more own advanced weapons and military armored vehicles including tanks as well as non-combat helicopters.
