SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani said on Monday that he would stand against anybody or party that breaks law and that the protection of public property is the party’s duty.

Talabani along with a delegation met with local officials in Sulaimani to discuss illegal encroachment on public property.

He reaffirmed the “PUK’s support and cooperation to prevent encroachment and stand against any effort by any person or party who take public property [illegally]”, his office said in a statement.

“We will face anyone and any party that violates public property for personal and private interests,” Talabani added.

“We will completely stand against law-breaking and consider the protection of public property and the image of Sulaimani as our duty,” he continued.

“We will cooperate and support the government’s institutions to prevent this phenomenon and the PUK will not be silent about these illegal acts.”

He also said the PUK president would stand against “any intention” that put laws and courts under question, stressing that “no one or groups are above the law”.
